Zapatista Encuentro
On New Years in 2007, over 2,000 people from nearly 50 counties gathered in the hills of Chiapas, Mexico to learn about the current situation of the Zapatistas, an armed revolutionary group that declared war against Mexico's central government in 1994. Described by the New York Times as the first postmodern revolution, the Zapatista movement employs sophisticated non-violent tactics, including global digital outreach, to protect the rights of the indigenous people of the poorest state of Mexico.
